An introduction to Crystal Work part 1
Crystals are undeniably beautiful but by incorporating crystal work techniques into your daily routine you can really make the most of the amazing power crystals possess.
Chances are that you've heard of the term 'crystal healing,' which refers to the use of crystals to heal your energy field and boost your mood. We can study the crystal's properties and try to choose one that seems appropriate for our situation, perhaps we pick those that have been shown to ease depression, or attract love. In crystal work traditions practitioners are encouraged to use their intuition and the power of their mind to unlock the powerful healing energy of the stone.
There are three main disciplines within crystal work, and over the next few weeks we will be featuring tutorials in our newsletters to further explain how to use crystals, covering beginner to advanced techniques.
BEGINNER | The Law of Attraction
INTERMEDIATE | Moon manifesting
ADVANCED | Chakra healing and your pendulum
Let's start with a quick history of crystal work....
There are many different crystal work traditions from around the world. Chakra healing originated in India around 1200BC and was documented in the ancient Vedic Sanskrit text, the Vedas. It is believed that crystals improve the health of your chakra system. There are seven major chakra points on the body and each chakra is associated with a specific colour and you treat imbalances in that energy meridian with a crystal of the same colour. This holistic practice is still a commonly enjoyed by many Indians today, and is gaining popularity through the rest of the world.
Crystal talismans and jewellery were also been used by ancient Sumerians, believe it or not, as far back as 4000 BC, as a way to guard their clan against danger. Ancient Sumerians documented that different types of crystals have different powers and some crystals, like obsidian, were known to protect the wearer from danger.
Wishing on a crystal is another aspect of crystal work and it can be found in many different cultures across the world. The ancient Egyptians were very interested in harnessing the power of crystals and they would use crystal trinkets as magical tools to help support them in this life....and the next.
Crystals made from green jasper, amethyst, lapis lazuli and carnelian were carved into scarab beetles to serve as talismans of protection when you are making your final journey to the underworld. These personal talismans were considered prized possessions, and the owner would set their intention for a safe journey through the afterlife.
Dowsing, or pendulum reading, is found in many ancient crystal work traditions in China, Egypt and Europe. A pendulum can be used for many purposes...divination, finding items, testing for food allergies to name a few. However, to practice this craft you'll need a basic understanding of your energy field.
Don't worry, we have another 4-part blog series explaining how to use your pendulum coming soon.
So what is the first step to becoming a crystal work practitioner?
Well the first step is to simply believe in the powerful energy that crystals emit. Sometimes crystal healing can seem a bit our there, but thanks to pioneers in science we have proof of the power crystals posses. Some crystals, like quartz are piezoelectric, meaning you can pass an electric current through the harmonious crystalline structure.
Quartz has been used to regulate time on watches and in the memory board of computers and phones. It is how the energy bounces around the harmonious crystalline structure of quartz that keeps your devices and apps running smoothly. If it wasn't for quartz you would not be able to read this article on you electronic device.
Quartz is the crystal that scientists use to program technology and is, also, recognised in many crystal work traditions as the MASTER crystal for manifesting your dreams. Probably one of the most common crystals mined, quartz is an essential crystal for anyone interested in crystal work.
Try carrying one chunk of quartz crystal around with you, and use it to practise little manifestations. For example When you go to a coffee shop at a busy time, programs a crystal to find you an empty table, or just to keep the busy line moving.
It is the validation that you get from little wishes that will help you manifest big dreams!
Our next blog will go into further detail about using a crystals to manifest your dreams.
The next step is to invest in crystals that can improve the flow of chi in your home...
Another great way to test the healing power of crystals is by investing in a large crystal display piece for your home. Large crystals can affect the mood of a room, and different crystals are advised for different rooms. For example keep kyanite in your bedroom to help you fall asleep, and keep a piece of howlite in living spaces to keep the mood chill. If you want to keep a room warm place a piece of carnelian in there, and to keep a room cool use serpentine.
When we are asked by crystal work beginners which crystal is best for a first investment, nine times out of ten we suggest amethyst. Amethyst is an excellent crystal to keep your house energetically fresh. Amethyst is part of the quartz family so it is super high vibe. It is associated with the purple crown chakra and this crystal clears out any bad ju-ju around the home and replaces it with uplifted energy. If you want to experience easy peasy crystal healing place a large piece amethyst in your living room, after a month see if you notice a change in the atmosphere.
All these little crystal work techniques will help you invoke the Law of Attraction...
The Law of Attraction was first referenced by Russian Occultist Helena Blavatsky. Although we do not know the specifics of how this term was formed it’s likely a modern definition of principles found in the traditions of Kabbalah and Buddhism.
There are four rules to abide by when invoking the Law of Attraction:
☾ Like attracts like
☾ You can’t fight the rules of nature
☾ You are always in the present moment and that is perfection.
☾ Do not be too specific and don’t worry about how it works
The Law of Attraction is very easy to work with, its just like making a wish, although some people find it difficult the first few times. We would recommend that you wish for a change in you life rather than specific items or people. For example you want to find a new partner, you might have one in mind however you must keep your intention open to anyone. I am sure we have all had experiences where we think we have found our perfect match, only to find here was someone more suitable just around the corner.
Once you have decided what you wish to attract you need to set your intention and the wording is very important. Be direct and ask the universe to deliver whatever is for you highest good. The universe has your back so don’t be shy about asking for what you truly desire.
When you are working with the Law of Attraction keep things vague and remember ... like attracts like, so if you are wishing for love recognise you are worthy of love and you will find a worthy partner. Try setting an intention like.. "I invite in love", or "Love is welcome in my life."
Whisper your intention on your crystal and keep it near you for the coming weeks. You can carry a crystal around with you in the form of crystal jewellery , or maybe keep a larger piece next it to your bed. For matters of the heart place crystals like rhodonite, green quartz or rose quartz in a prominent place in the house until you find a new love interest.
We would recommend using the moon’s cycle when practicing the Law of Attraction, Wiccan's would advise you do any manifestation work on the new moon, this is when the power of the moon is growing. A waxing moon helps build your dreams, whereas a waning moon helps you release what no longer serves you.
Be aloof. Too often I think we all get caught up in controlling our desires. If you want a new love in your life don't be too specific, just ask for love and remember to love yourself. If you want to attract money keep your spare change next to a crystal like adventurine, or citrine and let the crystals naturally attract more abundance. When you open your mind to the Law of Attraction the universe will take you on a wonderful journey to what and who is perfect for you.
