Meditation has had famous devotees as far back as the ‘60s when The Beatles sought guidance from transcendental meditation teacher Maharishi Mahesh Yogi – and celebrities are still big fans of the practice. One familiar face who has professed her love for meditation recently is actress Jessica Alba.
The 41-year-old, who has made a billion-dollar empire with her nontoxic-household-good start-up The Honest Company, recently spoke to Today about how she maintains a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle.
Mother-of-three Alba says meditation plays a big role in keeping her grounded, explaining: “[It] helps me connect with my heart and shut off a lot of the chatter in my head.”
The Sin City star also says doing yoga, spin classes, interval training, using her own skincare products, and drinking lots of water makes her feel “connected to [her] body”.
“I think, practice those holistic things that make you healthy, otherwise it doesn’t really matter what kind of cream or make-up you have,” Alba explained in the interview.
The actress-cum-businesswoman is just one of the long list of celebrities who have adopted meditation practices as a way of life.
As well as The Beatles spending several weeks with Maharishi at a retreat in India, Lady Gaga, Demi Lovato, Ellie Goulding, Kelly Rowland, Beyonce, and Miley Cyrus are also celebrity fans of meditation to name a few.
Talk-show host and producer Oprah Winfrey said of her love for meditation: “Knowing for sure that even in the daily craziness that bombards us from every direction, there is—still—the constancy of stillness. Only from that space can you create your best work and your best life.”
